Match Background
Nottingham Forest v Malmö and historical connections. The both teams have a special connection, also competing in Forest's previous European adventure in the 1995-96 Uefa Cup, but it is the European Cup final decades past that entwines these two together, with the record-breaking signing Francis scoring the winner of a pretty miserable final to secure historic victory for the red half of Nottingham.
"The legendary management duo, modestly dressed amid all the festivities and cheers, stood for a moment on a bench quietly watching the celebrations," commented the writer. This represented an outstanding achievement that it is unlikely to be replicated – from Second Division to continental competition in three seasons."
One should note to pause a little on Malmö, who became the initial and final Swedish club to make the championship match under manager Houghton.
The current fixture is a very different to that peak, closer perhaps to the previous continental meeting between Forest and Malmö in that era. Forest are riding high after thrashing Liverpool at Liverpool's home on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since 9 November following the completion of Allsvenskan. The general expectation is on the English side tonight.
Numerous other matches on offer in this live coverage. The Glasgow club have already been beaten by a European rival this season. Rangers are rock bottom of the league rankings at the middle of the initial phase with no points whatsoever. They badly want a victory if they are to have any hope of making a recovery for a playoff spot.
We'll keep you up to date with all the late games and provide the latest scores from the concluded fixtures, including the Birmingham match and Feyenoord v Celtic.
